Sugihara (Yosuke Kubozuka) is a Korean with a peculiar background. He was born and raised in Japan and schooled at a Korean school in Japan. At the end of junior high school, Sugihara decides to move onto a Japanese high school to expand his horizons.
Sugihara meets a Japanese girl, Sakurai (Kou Shibasaki) at a party and falls in love. Sakurai being the first girlfriend he’s ever had, he blunderingly starts to date her and they gradually feel drawn to each other. Sugihara had not told her that he was not Japanese, and is in agony whether to tell her or not, for his confession might ruin their relationship.
A breakthrough film for director Isao Yukisada, which took his career to a new level whilst provoking some compelling and thought-provoking questions. Go was brought to international attention by the Sundance Institute, giving acclaim to the talent of director Isao Yukisada, it went on to pick up many international awards.
